Background
The Retail Exchange podcast has been on the forefront of world-wide retail industry discussion since its inception in 2017. I have supported wider episode production from a recording and post production angle, recording on location at Industry events and retail expos in London, Amsterdam, Madrid, Rome and Barcelona, as well as mixing over 60 episodes of the podcast.

With the unrest that the 2020 pandemic caused for so much in person media production, I was happy to support The Retail Exchange with their continued production, engineering a number of cross continent remote dial in panel discussion and interview recordings when in person recording sessions were not permitted.

Production
Much of the recording when on location takes place in non-conventional spaces, so large conference expo halls, little booth spaces, or simply walking and talking. With this in mind I like to select a microphone that helps combat background noise and echoey spaces.

This may include broadcast headsets with cardioid mic and closed ear design, which are great for very noisy environments to improve monitoring and keep the mic close to the mouth while allowing free head movement when talking; or for a table mounted option, a close pick pattern dynamic mic such as the Beyer M201 on a stand which can take a branded foam. Having options for mic choice when podcast recording in non-studio spaces is always useful for increasing voice quality and intelligibility.
