Live sound
There’s something about live events and one-off experiences with a group of people thats brings a certain energy. I cut my teeth as a sound / system technician for DJ club events in and around the Midlands, looking after both people on stage and equipment while keeping sound level and quality in the pocket for best enjoyment for all.
Coming from a music production background, i transitioned my skills from the studio to the stage and discovered a love for front of house mixing of bands and artists in independent venues such as the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath, Birmingham.
Now, I freelance for event production companies as A1 / A2 on mostly corporate shows all over the UK, Often Including rigging / de-rigging PA, and mixing the show as part of a larger production team. The tech set varies but can typically be 8-12 channels of Shure or Sennheiser wireless running into a digital console (e.g. Yamaha, Allen&Heath or Midas) and off to the PA, which on a good day would be by D&B ;).
There’s always something new to learn both from a tech and human perspective with live sound, whether its music, speech or something abstract and art installation driven. Most importantly, it’s all about interaction with people; whether client, technician, musician or host, which makes every show enjoyable and different in its own way.
