Profile
I’m Mike, a West Midlands based location sound recordist and audio producer with over fifteen years experience recording, producing, mixing and teaching on a host of wonderful projects and productions across the broadcast, creative media and education worlds. I am easy to work with, love to travel and happy to work in a range of environments, from a corporate office to an open moorland! Read about some of my past projects here.
Equipment wise, I have the means to capture professional sound for a variety of interior or exterior projects - From a 2 lavs and a boom style documentary or branded content shoot, through to live acoustic music performances, multi-person podcast/radio episodes, on-location voice and creative SFX / soundscape / field recording. Outline kit list here (pop up).
I have 10m public liability cover, 5m professional indemnity cover, hold a current passport and clean UK driving licence. I am also a full member of the Audio Engineering Society and BECTU.

How I work
I tend to work in a few ways; either as a one man studio / producer, inc project management, recording out on location and producing for clients in my studio; as part of a small production team, to help deliver larger production aims or live events; or In collaboration with other like-minded folk across disciplines, where the project can be more abstract and exploratory, for example immersive installation or live music projects with a strong sound element.
Keeping an open mind to is important in my work to allow for the good stuff to happen! I'm always open to the new, so If you have a project or idea please get in touch: call me on +44 (0)7835 396 073 or send me a message.
Background
A fascinatingly chequered past of sound and music projects taking in live event promotion in the late 90's, teaching on and running suburban youth recording studio projects in the mid 2000’s, and managing an independent record label with artists touring the globe.
In 2013 I founded Boutique Recording, working on projects spanning podcast, documentary film, Installation and music; from recording all night raves to corporate CEO panel discussions, woodland jam sessions to bubbling barrels of fermenting apple juice!
Sound continues to teach and fascinate me on a daily basis as I embark on new freelance and collaborative projects while gradually adding to my personal experimental journal, always hoping to tread new ground in the world of audio.
